Perched on the slopes of Mount Kenya, Kiamugumo Factory is located in the Ngariama community of Kirinyaga County. Smallholder producers deliver ripe coffee cherries to the factory by horse or motorcycle, where they are washed and depulped using water from the Kii River. The coffee is then dried on traditional African raised beds, allowing for consistent airflow and even drying.
Beyond processing, the factory supports its producers through training seminars and access to education and sustainable farming practices. A demonstration plot is maintained on site, offering farmers a practical reference for their own farms. Coffee is the primary economic activity in Ngariama, alongside crops such as banana and maize, with grevillea, macadamia, and false banana trees commonly planted to provide shade for coffee trees.
